New beach clean stations will soon appear across the across the South West coastline and beyond, helping turn the tide on the plastic and debris polluting our beaches.

Devon-based holiday home insurance specialists Boshers have teamed up with Ecclesiastical to support the #2minutebeachclean initiative.

The firms will be providing £2,500 of funding to #2minutebeachclean as part of Ecclesiastical’s ‘Closer to You’ community programme with the proceeds going toward setting up a number of new beach clean stations.

The two minute beach clean initiative calls upon people visiting the region’s beaches to spend just two minutes of their time clearing the growing volume of plastic and debris washed up from the sea.

Mark Lavington, Director at Boshers Ltd explained; “We’re lucky to live in one of the most beautiful parts of the world and our beaches play a huge role in the region’s tourism industry, attracting millions of people to the South West every year.  We’re delighted to be supporting this growing initiative that ensures our beaches are kept clean.”

Each year 6.4 million tonnes of plastic are dumped into the sea, killing more than one million seabirds and countless other marine animals. The West Country coastline is now also counting the cost with increasing amounts of plastic being washed upon the shorelines of Devon and Cornwall.

Mark added “We regularly get involved in two minute beach cleans and it’s incredible how much you can actually get done in less than the time it takes to make a cup of tea. We hope as many people as possible use the new stations and contribute towards keeping our beaches plastic free.”

Boshers applied for grant funding from Ecclesiastical Insurance Group’s ‘Closer to You’ community programme to boost its support for The Beach Clean Network Limited. This programme gives Ecclesiastical’s Select insurance broker partners the chance to be part of its ambition to give £100million to good causes. As well as providing funding for charities close to brokers, employees from the specialist insurer are also teaming up with brokers for volunteering days and fundraising challenges.

#2minutebeachclean founder, Martin Dorey, said “We are delighted to be able to continue our work, thanks to Boshers. They have been a big supporter for a while and can now help us to help beach goers make a real difference to our coastlines. Great job!”
