Being able to name a street is usually reserved for the the high achievers or celebrities in our society, but one estate agency in Devon is giving the general public that very chance.

Helmores in Crediton, have taken on a development of five brand new homes in Lapford and when the developer asked the Helmores New Homes team to help brand and market the site for him, they decided to make the public the Creative Directors.

Associate Partner George Clover said: “When the Helmores New Homes de-partment takes on developments - whether it is one or hundreds of properties - we are asked to help advise on what will sell, what we can achieve and advice on the re-sale. But more and more we are involved in the development of the branding and marketing.

"This time we thought we’d do something a bit differ-ent and open it up as a public challenge.

"They can come up with any names, we will pull together a shortlist of five and then submit these to the developer. The final decision will be down to him - and then of course down to council approval.”

The new development of five houses on the edge of Lapford is due to be completed in Autumn/Winter 2015 and with a mix of 3 and 4 bedroom houses reserva-tions are already being made.

George added: “The houses will be to a very good specification and all energy efficient with air source heat pumps providing underfloor heating and with choices available on finishes for early exchange of contracts. All we have to do is give the place a name!”

To enter the competition the public can enter by visiting Helmores’ Twitter, Facebook or Instagram social media pages and post their suggested name and reasons for choosing it.

The name will be submitted to the council for consideration.

On approval - the winning name will be immortalised on the map of Lapford!
