Yarcombe Young Farmers support Exeter’s Neonatal Unit

The Yarcombe and District Young Farmers Club (YFC) have donated £1,000 to the Neonatal Unit at the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital to help support their work caring for poorly babies and their families.

The club selected the unit as one of their chosen charities for the year because of the specialist support it provides for people from their local community. They also chose to support the Neonatal Unit at Musgrove Park Hospital in Taunton and children’s charity Over the Wall - raising £3,000 in total for their three charities, to be divided equally between them.

Throughout the year the group organised a series of charity events to raise funds for the charities, including a disco and a Wine and Wisdom evening in Yarcombe, carol singing, turkey plucking, and Christmas Yule logs and handmade Christmas Cards selling. In the New Year they continued their campaign with a whist drive, a theatre performance, a foam party and a 22 mile charity bike ride. And to top things off they celebrated their Yarcombe and District YFC’s 70th Anniversary in style with an anniversary ball and celebratory lunch in June.

Sarah Broom, Yarcombe and District YFC Secretary, said: “Members chose Exeter Neonatal Unit as one of our chosen charities this year because it is such a worthwhile cause supporting babies and parents in our local area. We have had a jam packed year and are over the moon to be able to present you with a cheque for £1,000 which we hope will help the charity a great deal.”

Sarah recently visited the Neonatal Unit in Exeter to hand over their fundraising cheque on behalf of Yarcombe and District YFC to Senior Nurse Sue Prosser. Sue also gave Sarah a tour of the unit and explained how their generous donation would be used to help benefit babies and their families.
