Traffic signal replacement work at busy Exeter junction

Preparatory work is underway to upgrade traffic signals at a junction in Alphington Street, Exeter, later this month.

Temporary traffic signals will be in place at the junction of Exe Bridge/Alphington Street and Alphington Street/Haven Road, from Wednesday 24 October to enable the work to be carried out.

The signals, poles and electrics will all be replaced, and cable ducting will also be repaired. As much of the scheme as possible will be carried out using the existing traffic signals but the temporary lights will be used when the main signals are replaced.

The temporary units will be located in areas to maintain minimum clearance and access at the crossing points. As with the permanent lights, the temporary signals will have rotating cones for blind people.

The new traffic signals will use around 70% less energy than the current system.

The scheme is scheduled to be completed by Friday 23 November.
