This rare creature was pulled out of the water at Ladram Bay in Devon this afternoon by the holiday park's resident fisherman.

Blue lobsters are rare and the oft-cited odds of catching one are one in two million, but no one knows for sure.

Their colour comes from a genetic defect that causes it to produce an excessive amount of a certain protein, crustacyanin

Fishermen who come across a blue lobster believe it to be a sign of good luck and usually do not eat it.

And just like all lobsters, blue lobsters turn bright red when they are cooked.

Staff at Ladram, near Otterton, are now looking for a new home for the colourful crusteacan!
