TOP honours at the 36th Exeter and District Primestock Christmas Show, held at Exeter Livestock Market, went to home-bred British Blue cross heifer “Saucy Clover”, shown by Paul and Lin Calcraft from Payhembury, Honiton.

It was the fifth time the couple had claimed the supreme championship at the show in seven years.

Saucy Clover, by well-known sire Drift Domini, was born on January 4, 2016 and weighed in at 658 kilos.  The heifer went on to top the sale at £2,632 (400ppk), purchased by Darts Farm Master Butchers at Topsham.

Saucy Clover finished the season on a high, having previously claimed the British Blue heifer title at both the English and Welsh Winter Fairs.

Reserve was Limousin heifer “Madam”, born on August 8, 2016 exhibited by Eddie Davies from Shepton Beauchamp, Somerset.

In the sheep classes, the Darke family from Kingsbridge took the supreme championship with a pair of Texel lambs.

The show attracted a good quality of prime cattle, butchers lambs and pigs for the show and sale, held on December 1, which was conducted by Kivells Auctioneers.

Trophies were presented by the Lord Mayor of Exeter, Cllr Lesley Robson.

John Quick, show chairman, of Crediton, said there was a good standard of exhibits across all the classes.

He thanked Exeter City Council which operates the market, Kivells Auctioneers, the sponsors and exhibitors, buyers and those who took along trade stands.

Kivells Auctioneers recently completed the sale of its millionth sheep at Exeter Livestock Centre.
