The Exeter, Mid and East Devon branch of Samaritans is seeking more volunteers - with the promise that anyone who joins will make a difference and touch someone’s life.

Two open evenings are being held at the branch, in central Exeter, on November 24 and January 13 to explain what is involved and how people can help.

“To touch another person’s life, when it really matters to them, is one of the most rewarding things I’ve ever done” explains Caz from Exeter (pictured) who has volunteered with Samaritans for the past 18 months.

Caz and the rest of the branch hope to bolster the existing 100 local volunteers to support those who may not have anywhere else to turn.

Samaritans offers round-the-clock emotional support for anyone feeling down, depressed, anxious or unhappy. The confidential service is offered by ‘phone, email, text, letter and face-to-face.

“There’s a wide range of roles available to suit people with different skills from taking calls to our helpline, to providing administrative and IT support or organising publicity and fundraising activities for the branch” explains Helen Crossfield, director of the Exeter, Mid and East Devon branch.

“By working together to support people who may be struggling to cope, you will make a real difference. Our branch is a hugely rewarding place to work and not only do we offer expert training but the team work and support in the branch are a major part of who we are” she explains.

The Open Evenings on November 24 and January 13 begin at 7.30pm at the Samaritans premises at 10 Richmond Road, Exeter, EX4 4JA.
