Repairs due to start on A380

The first of a programme of planned repair schemes is due to start on the A380 next week.

Following survey and inspection work carried out on the route earlier this year, Devon County Council has announced that day time lane closures, from 9:30am to 3:30pm, will be introduced on the northbound section of the A380 between Gappah Lane and Wapperwell Cottages from Monday 20 November for a maximum of a week. This is to enable drainage cleaning and investigation and to prepare for reconstruction work in December.

Due to the depth of reconstruction needed, from Monday 4 December, this work will need overnight road closures from 7pm to 6am for two weeks, in addition to daytime lane closures which will be subject to a 50mph speed restriction for safety.

At the start of the new year, work will also be carried out on the southbound carriageway at Telegraph Hill and the southbound carriageway at Ware Barton. Details of traffic management and schedule will be confirmed nearer the time.

Councillor Stuart Hughes, Devon County Council Cabinet Member for Highway Management, said: “The condition of the road and pavement on these sections of the A380 is deteriorating and they need to be reconstructed and resurfaced.  The A380 is an extremely busy route and we are making every effort to co-ordinate as much work as possible to minimise disruption.”

Councillor Jerry Brook, Devon County Councillor for Chudleigh and Teign Valley, said: “This part of the network is a vital link to the South Devon and Torbay area so it is paramount the safety and condition of the road is maintained for the benefit of everyone. Hopefully any disruption will be limited and the work will progress speedily, minimising any inconvenience to all road users and local residents.”

Surveys will also be carried out to establish how much vegetation needs to be cut back.
