Overnight resurfacing work will be carried out on Heavitree Road in Exeter over the next two weeks.

Sections of the road will be closed from 7pm to 7am on Wednesday (2 August), Thursday (3 August) and Friday (4 August).

The road will then be completely reopened at night time over the weekend, before overnight closures resume the following week on the evenings of Monday 7 August, Tuesday 8 August and Wednesday 9 August.

Diversions will be in place for the duration of the night-time work via Barrack Road, Topsham Road and Western Way.

Councillor Stuart Hughes, Devon County Council’s Cabinet Member for Highway Management, said: “This resurfacing work is necessary to improve the condition of the road and extend its lifespan. Although there may be temporary disruption while the work is carried out, the programme has been scheduled overnight to minimise inconvenience to road users, residents and local businesses and I would urge everyone to bear with us.”

Councillor Su Aves, County Councillor for St Sidwells and St James, said: “I am pleased that this major and heavily used arterial road is being well maintained and that the work is being done at night to reduce inconvenience.”

Work will be carried out by Glendinning Contracting.
