Local healthcare and protection insurance provider The Exeter has presented their 2015 Charity of the Year, Rainbow Living, with a cheque for £9,367.

Staff at The Exeter raised the significant sum through a series of innovative fundraising events, including a 72-mile sponsored cycle challenge, raffles, dress down days, cake sales, an internal fundraising competition, as well as fundraising events organised by individuals in their own time.  Staff also supported the charity through volunteer work, including gardening at the Exeter Rainbow House, running car boot sales and modelling at Rainbow Living’s first fashion show.

All of the money will be put towards the total needed for the charity to purchase a third Rainbow House, enabling another group of young learning disabled adults to live with their peers in supported living within the local community.

Ruth Airdrie from Rainbow Living was thrilled to receive the cheque from The Exeter’s Andy Chapman, Becky Penrose and Tony Jones:

“We are so grateful to everyone at The Exeter for raising such an amazing amount.  I would like to say a personal thank you to everyone who supported the many wonderful fundraising initiatives, to those who took part in events, or held their own, as well as to all those staff who volunteered their time to help us in so many different ways. We are very thankful to The Exeter for fundraising for and alongside us to make a real and positive difference to the lives of disabled adults in the local area.”

Andy Chapman, The Exeter’s CEO, said: “We are proud to support local charities and delighted to have been able to help Rainbow Living on their journey to acquire a third Rainbow House.  Rainbow Living was selected as our Charity of the Year for a number of reasons and we admire the commitment and hard work shown by this small, volunteer-run group.”

The Exeter will further extend its fundraising efforts by continuing to support Rainbow Living throughout 2016.  Staff have already planned a number of events, including an Easter themed day in the office and a bike ride from Cherbourg to St Malo, while employee Adrian Thorley is running the London marathon.
