Fire crews attended a blaze at an office in Southernhay West last night (Monday 1 June).

One appliance from Middlemoor and an appliance from Danes castle, along with the aerial platform also from Danes Castle, were mobilised to the city centre fire at around 9.30pm.

The officer in charge confirmed that there was a fire in the building involving a paper shredder.

A spokesperson for Devon & Somerset Fire & Rescue Service said: "Crews used breathing apparatus, a  hose reel jet and a thermal imaging camera to extinguish the fire, which  left the building with approximately  50% damage by fire and 100% smoke damage.

"Crews were detained a short while damping down and extinguishing hot spots.

"This was accidental ignition."
