Devon County Council appoints new chairman

Outgoing Chairman Cllr Christine Channon handed over to Devon County Council’s new Chairman, Cllr Andrew Moulding, at a meeting of the Full Council on Thursday afternoon (12 May).

Cllr Moulding has represented the Axminster Division as a Devon County Councillor for seven years.

He is also a Town and District Councillor and is currently Deputy Leader for East Devon District Council.

Axminster born Andrew was educated locally and directed his own company in the town for 24 years.

He is married with two sons, and retired four years ago from his employment for 16 years with Somerset County Cricket Club.

He served as a Governor at Axe Valley Community College for over 20 years and led the development of Cloakham Lawn Sports Centre, which offers sporting and social opportunities for people of all ages.

Andrew is Chairman of Axminster Community Enterprise, a trustee of Axminster Heritage and Patron of ARC Bereavement Service.

He said: “I am delighted to be the Chairman of Devon County Council and feel extremely honoured, for myself, my family and the community of Axminster which I represent.

“I will constantly strive to maintain the reputation of Devon County Council during my year of office.”

South Brent and Dartington member, Cllr Rose Rowe has replaced Cllr John Matthews as vice chairman.
