The popular St George & Dragon pub in Exeter, part of Vintage Inns group, has re-opened this week after benefitting from a stunning makeover.

The St George & Dragon, on Exmouth road, closed for five days while the refurbishments took place to breathe new life into the pub.

At the centre of the pubs overhaul is a newly refurbished bar and dining area, complete with new furnishings and furniture throughout, positioned around three roaring open fires. The full interior makeover has maintained the intimacy and rural charm guests have come to expect of the country pub, whilst offering a brighter and more spacious area to drink or dine.

Improved signage to the exterior of the pub provides better visibility from the road side, while the redesign of the interior has offered a unique touch to each room, creating a wholesome and welcoming family environment for guests to enjoy.
The Inn Keeper’s Lodge hotel, attached to the pub, also received a complete remodel as part of the refurbishment and re-opened to eager travellers on Monday 3rd April.

Complete with new furnishings and furniture, as well as stunning new artwork which depicts the beautiful rural Devon countryside – every room has been given a brighter and cosier feel, designed to give it a real home from home appeal.

Lesley Hughes, General Manager at the St George & Dragon, comments: “The refurbishment is truly fantastic, the pub feels so much fresher and more inviting than before, whilst the intimate features which gave the pub its rustic identity remain. The level of investment we’ve put into the St George & Dragon has been very welcomed, we’re just so pleased with the new look and we’re really enthusiastic about making it our own.

“Having recently joined the team myself, I am tremendously proud of the commitment shown to putting the pub on the map, and I would encourage anyone looking for a fine ale or a scrumptious dinner to pop along and see our new look. From our chefs right through to our front of house team, every member of the St George & Dragon is dedicated to customer experience – and with a great selection of seasonal dishes including seared fillet of sea bass, and Cornish kiln-smoked bacon rib, we are confident that we can become a top foodie destination.”

Dating back to the 19th Century, the inn originally comprised a brew house, skittle alley, garden stables, outbuildings and a three-acre arable field. By the 1920's, The St. George and Dragon was one of the leading roadhouses in the county, described in auction details as "the most unique inn in Devon.
