Families for Children are delighted to announce that they have been the nominated charity of Hawkchurch Resort and Spa based in Axminster.

Throughout the year they will be working with the Charity to raise funds through events and activities at the Resort and Spa; events such as their Christmas Fair, a static bike ride and some items within their gift shop will support Families for Children.

Richard McGrory, General Manager of Hawkchurch Resort and Spa, said “I have been looking for a children’s charity to support as Darwin escapes specialises in making families and children experiences memorable and that last life time; therefore we want to ensure that we can help support Families for Children so that they too can help create wonderful memories that last a lifetime.”

The monies raised by the Resort & Spa will contribute to supporting adoptive families throughout their lives and specifically the adoption support services access from the Atrium Centre for Adoption Support, the charity’s new therapeutic support services.

The Atrium centre for Adoption Support has been developed by Families for Children to support the growing need for adoption support services in the regions. The service includes a Multi-Disciplinary Therapeutic Support team, a comprehensive training programme for adopters, an education service to help support adopted children in schools and the all-important immediate response service for adopters

The Agency stress how important it is for adopters to know they have a workable support plan in place and that there is some where they can go for help however small or large that need may be.  Many of the children placed have come from a traumatic start in life and sometimes that history can manifest itself in behavioural and emotional problems as they get older. Whilst in some children these effects are evident immediately and support is offered from the start, for other families it may not be needed until the child reaches puberty or adolescence. The new service aims to target some of the support regularly needed as well as looking at educating those involved in the process including adopters, schools and wider networks.

The Charity are currently supporting over 200 families with adoption services.  This is only set to grow with the increasing number of children being placed for adoption. The Charity relies heavily on charitable donations from businesses and individuals to continue their adoption support work.

Hawkchurch Resort & Spa is located on the Devon-Dorset border, in a stunning natural environment surrounded by woodland and greenery.  It was part of the redevelopment of a former tenting, touring and static caravan park in 2016 and has been completely transformed into first class facilities; luxurious holiday lodges with a spa, hydro pool, gym and restaurant. This brand new resort has been designed from the ground up with peace and relaxation in mind.
