Exeter Lives: Matthew Whittaker

No stranger to coffee lovers in Exeter and beyond, Matthew (Matt) Whittaker trades on his vintage Dutch trike, the BikeCaffe, most days except Sundays. He is also known to have peddled his coffee at various festivals throughout the land. We caught up with him to find out a little more about why he loves the city of Exeter.

Chatty, grizzly, day-dreamer, beach-bum, lanky

Friendly, laid-back, historic, youthful, hilly!!


What brought you to Exeter?

The love of a woman! and access to two coasts.

Big Screen in the Park

What was the last live performance you saw in Exeter and where did you see it?

The computers at Exeter Phoenix, it went off the scale!

Harry's or The Hourglass

Best coffee in town?

Bikecaffe of course! unless I'm really hungover then Devon Coffee, The Exploding Bakery or Exeter Phoenix

Bowling Green

Kenniford Farm Hog Roast

Queen Street News! It's beyond epic, and they sell blue slush puppy. Win!

What or where is Exeter's best kept secret?

A spot on the river where you can sit on the rocks & watch kingfishers. I'm not telling where.

What one change would you like to see in Exeter?

A decent daily produce market.

Who is your local hero or heroine?

The guys at the boarding house on fore street for being instrumental in the local skate & bmx scene and for the new flowerpots park.

Off to Amsterdam to brew coffee for Urban Outfitters.
