Leading South West law firm, Stephens Scown LLP is celebrating being crowned Private Client Team of the Year in the 2013 British Legal Awards at a glittering awards ceremony in Old Billingsgate Market, London.

The firm beat off tough competition from four leading London law firms and was the only firm shortlisted from the South West. This recognises the joint work of the family law and private client teams across the region.

Robert Camp, managing partner, said: “Stephens Scown was pitched against some of the best law firms both nationally and internationally and this independent recognition of the firm’s achievements, talents and care shown to our clients cannot be underestimated. It’s a great credit, not only to our winning team, but also the whole firm.”

The British Legal Awards set out to recognise the important contribution the legal business community makes, not just to the UK economy but also to the wider market, celebrating ‘achievement, excellence and innovation’.

The judging panel comprised a line-up of senior general counsel and other business figures, including BAE Systems group GC Philip Bramwell, former Clifford Chance managing partner Peter Cornell, BAA GC Carol Hui, Rothschild executive vice chairman Sir Anthony Salz and Vodafone group GC Rosemary Martin.

City of London Law Society chairman Alasdair Douglas, who chaired the judging panel, said: "The submissions across all categories showed expertise of the highest order and the contribution to the economic success of clients in a number of cases was game changing."

Stephens Scown has over 40 partners and 230 staff across its offices in Exeter, Truro and St Austell.
