If January is already getting you down (or even if it isn’t), then the advent of three top comedians in Mid-Devon could give you the boost you need.

Dominic Holland, one of the country’s most respected stand-up comedians, will be compering the Comedy Night at Blundell’s School, Tiverton, on Friday 15 January.

Also on the bill are award-winning writer and stand-up Mark Maier, a highly sought after performer on both national and international comedy circuits  and visual comedian Steve Best, who uses a mind-boggling array of gadgets and gags to keep his audience in stitches.

The chance to see these three comedians together is not to be missed and the Comedy Night is open to all over 16 years of age; tickets are £12 and can be booked by emailing c.francis@blundells.org

The evening starts at 7pm and a bar will be available.

The event is in aid of the Laos Children’s Learning Project, which aims to reduce poverty in Laos and which Blundell’s has been working with for two years. This year, Blundell’s hopes to raise enough money to buy an elephant for the community in the Nong Khiaw area; the animals are vital for the local economy.

Last year, the whole school raised more than $12,000 to help provide a dormitory for 80 girls so they could continue their education and improve their opportunities for the future.

A group of Blundell’s Year 11 pupils also went to Nong Khiaw to put the final touches to the dormitory, which included painting in high humidity and monsoon rain.

The group also visited many remote villages by boat and on foot, delivering books and writing equipment (many of the villages are only accessible by river) and working with the children using the learning materials they had produced prior to the trip.
