Exeter Born Actor returns to Devon with a new play set in a Devon Village

Exeter born Mark Carey is returning to Cygnet Theatre in Exeter for his solo show Into The Breach.

Charting one man’s battle with Shakespeare, Into the Breach is a tour-de-force for Mark who plays all 17 delightful and endearing characters involved in a production of Shakespeare’s Henry V mounted in a remote Devon Village in 1942.

Mark, a successful actor and writer, began his theatre career here in Exeter, first of all at St Thomas’s High School (now West Exe Technology College) and with the help and encouragement of Monica Shallis, founder of Cygnet Theatre, he went on to Study

Acting at Central School of Speech and Drama.  Mark has performed in theatres up and down the country and also turned to writing, directing and teaching.

Mark has never forgotten his Devon roots, and is now combining his love of Devon with his acting and writing talents.  A childhood fascination with Castle Drogo led him to write The Last Country House for BBC Radio 4 in which he told the story of the building of the Castle and the Drew family who commissioned it, through the character of Will Soper, a stonemason who helped to build it.

Mark has returned to Cygnet many times, playing in and directing performances of The Last Country House and A Final Portrait about the life of Rex Whistler, both written for Radio 4, as well as an extremely successful Pantomime for Cygnet Theatre – Dick Whittington and his Cat Ron, which he also directed.
Now Mark returns with Into The Breach - funny, moving and informative, this is an hour and a half of sheer delight.  Not to be missed.
