Mal Evans was the Beatles roadie, but he was also their closest friend, he toured the world with them, took part on their recording sessions and films. He was there when they met Bob Dylan and Elvis. He was their protector when their lives were threatened in the Philippines and present when they studied with Maharishi in India. He even lived with Paul McCartney as his housekeeper in 1967 and there is good reason to believe he helped write the title song of ‘Sergeant Pepper’s Lonely Hearts’ Club Band!

To the boys he was an invaluable travelling companion and close confidante. On the crazy ride that was Beatlemania, it’s doubtful they would have survived without him.

Nik Wood-Jones brings the ’6th Beatle?’ Mal back to life in this touching and funny one-hander which premièred in 2012 at the world famous Cavern in Liverpool before a successful 3-week run at The Edinburgh Festival Fringe.

“As Mal, Wood-Jones, makes such a convincing & loveable rogue that it’s not hard to see why the Fab 4 wanted him by their side at all times” (The STAGE)

1963 was the year of the meteoric rise to fame of the Beatles, when they toured all of the UK & Ireland for the first time, so exactly 50 years on it is quite appropriate that this new imaginative drama, with original music, should be doing be touring as well.

Nik Wood-Jones (Performer/writer) Nik, who is from Manchester is best known for playing English Lake District writer Alfred Wainwright, first appearing as him in the film, ‘The Man Who Loved the Lakes’ (2007), as well providing AW’s voice in the popular ‘Wainwright walks series for the BBC. He also notably played Irish poet Patrick Kavanagh in both ‘On Raglan Road’ & ‘Kavanagh’, both on the London stage and on 2 separate & hugely successful tours of Ireland.
