Exeter original band “no ordinary fish” are playing a gig at Exeter Phoenix Studio 1 on Sunday 8th October from 7.30-9.30pm to release their 2nd album “Adverse Camber”.  Tickets cost £5 and proceeds from ticket sales will go to the charity Overcoming Multiple Sclerosis as drummer/singer Stu has the condition and recently had to quit teaching after 25 years ...how many singing drummers do you know with MS?!  CDs, t-shirts, baseball caps and tote bags will also be on sale.

Tickets available here https://exeterphoenix.org.uk/events/no-ordinary-fish/

The new album features songs written around the time of the pandemic in times of adversity, hence the album title “Adverse Camber”. Things went wrong for a while and the road sloped sideways, but they kept moving.  The many troubles surrounding the creation of this album has added to the pride that the band feel about it.

Biography

Debbie (guitar, vocals) and Stu (drums, vocals) got married in 1999 and honeymooned at the V99 festival, Gary (bass) and Stu were in a covers band for several years.  They found Rich (guitar) on Gumtree when they were looking for a new guitarist and some trestle tables!

no ordinary fish released their 1st album “…press start” just as Stu got hospitalised with the beginnings of MS and so were unable to promote the album.  Those who heard it still love it – harmonies, easy-going tunes, catchy choruses, eclectic genres including blues, country-rock and 70s pop.

New album “Adverse Camber” has a punchier, catchier feel and new guitarist Rich has brought a lot of tasteful/thoughtful tones to the table.  They have included an epic 7 minute closer from Debbie, “Shadowlands”, which ends with a truly memorable guitar solo. Several record stations and internet blogs have promoted their new songs and they will surely be playing bigger festivals next year.

Band Ethos

no ordinary fish aim to capitalise on the increasing love for "90s sounding music" as this was a peak period for catchy pop and rock music around then. Their personal music tastes are eclectic and they live for music as it's the best thing about being alive!
