THE UK’s biggest professional cycling race, the Tour of Britain, returns to Devon in September. The Devon stage 5 of The Tour 2014 will start in Exmouth on Thursday, September 11 and will take the long way round to finish in Exeter.

This will be the eighth consecutive year The Tour has visited Devon, where more than a million people have watched the race along the various Stage routes around the county

The historic city of Exeter will be the riders’ finish location for one of the Stage of the Tour. As in 2011, the riders will once again pass right through the centre of the stunning cathedral city of Exeter. A thriving city with a rich history spanning more than 2,000 years from Roman times, Exeter combines a wealth of visitor attractions and architectural splendour with a bountiful array of shops, restaurants, bars and live music venues.

It will be a chance for Devon to celebrate the completion of the Exe Estuary Trail, which is due to be completed later this year, and the route also takes in other important cycling centres.

It's estimated that the tour will arrive in Exmouth at 11am.
