Smörgåsbord Brings Taste Of Scandi To Easter Bank Holiday

A Swedish Smörgåsbord feast will be served this April Bank Holiday at The Magdalen Chapter. In true Scandinavian style, the top Exeter hotel will be treating guests to a grazing banquet of traditional delicacies throughout the afternoon.

Smörgåsbords are an integral part of the Scandinavian feasting and drinking culture surrounding the countries national holidays. Spreads featuring cold meats, smoked and pickled fish, cheeses and wine are shared with family and friends each annual holiday.

The Magdalen Chapter’s Head Chef Matt Downing said: “Scandinavia is a true taste destination and is bursting with new and exciting cooking styles. We’re so excited to be bringing not only this, but also their ethos and tradition to our Bank Holiday event.

“Bank Holidays are all about family time and sharing great food in great company. We are really looking forward to welcoming our guests to make the most of the long weekend and enjoy a leisurely afternoon toasting to good friends and sampling delicious Scandinavian flavours.”

The menu will feature dishes including Salmon Gravalax on Rye Bread, Prinskorvar, Poached Cod Lemon and Dill, Turkey Almond and Grape Salad, Pickled Eggs, Potatoes Browned in Sugar, Breaded Swedish Meatballs and Spare Ribs.

Desserts including Lemon Curd Tartlets, Rice Pudding, Swedish Sour Cream Cakes, Scandinavian Cheeses and Warm Chocolate Pecan Pie will continue the Scandinavian theme.

The Bank Holiday Smörgåsbord follows the sell out success of the hotel’s Signe Johansen event last summer. The Queen of Nordic cooking hosted a one-off Scandinavian Afternoon Tea at the hotel in June.
