Celebrating its 10th anniversary this year, The Contemporary Craft Festival brings together exceptional work from leading makers from all over the UK and Ireland. Over 10,000 visitors are anticipated to visit one of the UK’s largest and finest craft events. To celebrate the strength of the national interest in craft the festival will have more makers exhibiting and demonstrating craft skills than ever before. There will be demonstrations by some of the UK’s leading practitioners in contemporary furniture design including Gareth Neal and Sarah Kay, wheel thrown ceramics by Clive Bowen, leading printmaker Rosie Sanders, glass blowing with E&M Glass, screen printing by Emma Purdie, inspirational paper artist Jennifer Collier, wire sculpture by Celia Smith and experimental and multiple, award winning weaver Laura Thomas. And to celebrate International Yarnbombing Day and World Knit in Public there are rumours of a Yarnbombing by Graffiti Grannies!

The Contemporary Craft Festival was launched 10 years ago and has since established itself as one of the leading craft events for collecting contemporary craft. New events at the Festival include: The Talk Tipi with leading makers, thinkers and academics talking about how new technologies are influencing craft, the importance and relevance of handmade and its ability to influence social change. Hothouse Alumni participants presented by the Crafts Council representing what is the very best in new, contemporary making often adopting the latest techniques and new technologies. 10 out of 10 Exhibition at the Devon Guild in the Jubilee Gallery celebrating 10 years of award winning makers from the Festival.

Making a welcome return will be One Year On, our showcase of new designer makers and The Great Windsor Chair Race – world-renowned furniture designers Gareth Neal, Chris Eckersley, Carl Clerkin and Sarah Kay will go head-to-head in the popular annual challenge to create classic Ercol inspired Windsor chairs.Respected as the largest craft festival in the South West, visitors can expect a weekend brimming with live action from 200 makers of contemporary objects including award winning silversmiths, potters, furniture makers, textile artists, glass makers, jewellery and more. Plus workshops for all ages and a packed Children’s Craft tent will keep budding young craftspeople entertained, with live music and a wide variety of great street food.
