Join a charity cycle ride along the Exe Estuary this weekend to help the cancer charities which supported an Exeter family through their mother’s illness.

Bridget Johns, who lived at Ebford, sadly lost her battle to cancer earlier this year and despite great sadness, her family has organised a charity cycle ride and barbecue on Sunday 20 July 20 to raise money for local charity, Hospiscare, Cancer Research UK and Marie Cure Cancer Care.

The ride is being hosted by local cycle hire company, The Bike Bus, and will start at Exeter following a 20 mile route along the beautiful Exe Estuary Trail.

Bridget's daughter, Lizzie Johns, who lives in Heavitree, said: “You never know when someone you love will need these charities, so it is vital that we raise money as a community to support them.

“Hospiscare mainly gave emotional support to my mum and also to my dad as mum's main carer. Nurses would ring regularly to see how mum was and if they could help with anything. They came to visit mum on several occasions to discuss her illness and to help her and my dad to come to terms with it all. Hospiscare offered a great service which is why we want to give something back and try.”

To register and also arrange cycle hire contact Chris Johns of The Bike Bus on 07773 362119 or visit: www.facebook.com/exeterbikebus. Donations: www.justgiving.com/teams/bridgetjohns

The cycle ride will start at 11:00am from Haven Road, on Quay, Exeter, to Orcombe Point in Exmouth. A registration fee of £ 15 for adults and £ 10 for children includes a sandwich at Orcombe Point and the barbecue at the Turf.
