The Great South West Partnership has launched its new Investment Brochure at UKREiiF, the UK's largest investment and development convention with over 10,000 delegates attending. The National Fraud Intelligence Bureau have reported a 7 per cent increase in the number of fraud offences recorded in England and Wales, compared to the previous year.

That’s more than 660,000 reports made to the intelligence bureau. But experts estimate that only 5 to 15 percent of all scams are reported, so the true number of fraud offences is likely to be considerably higher. June sees national Scams Awareness Month, and Devon, Somerset and Torbay Trading Standards is raising awareness of scams, how to spot them, and importantly how to report them so others don’t fall for them...

Princesshay to host Wimbledon Big Screen

Live outdoor screenings of Wimbledon matches on a giant screen will take place in Princesshay Square for the duration of the legendary two-week tournament (Monday 2nd July – Sunday 15th July).

Princesshay will also provide deckchairs, bean bags and a temporary lawn for visitors to enjoy while watching the matches free of charge.

Warning to motorists parking near Exeter Canal

People are being warned not to park their cars beside an access road to a popular canal-side pub in Exeter. Signs are due to go up on Tuesday (19 June) along the road between Salmonpool Bridge and the Double Locks pub. The City Council said a number of motorists were regularly parking at the side of the road, causing problems for passing vehicles and damaging the banks of the canal and the footpath. The awards ceremony for the Outstanding Care Awards for Devon and Cornwall has celebrated local heroes in the caring sector.

Carers, Rowcroft Hospice and Ocean Healthcare were amongst employees, volunteers and care organisations from across the region celebrated at the awards.

The ceremony saw more than 300 people attend the sold out event at the Livermead Hotel in Torquay.

South West Cyber Security firm launches unique apprenticeship programme

Leading edge cyber security experts have just launched the first Cyber Security apprenticeship programme, which includes GCHQ certified courses, at Plymouth Science Park.

It’s the perfect combination – biking and breakfast all under one roof. Exeter Business Club decided to add pedaling to the menu during their weekly breakfast meeting.

New strategy to reduce plastic waste gets green light

Devon County Council will phase out its use of the most polluting single-use plastic products within two years.

Members of the Council’s Cabinet voted unanimously to support to the move, which is part of a new action plan to help cut the amount of single-use plastic waste in Devon.

The ‘Plastics Strategy’ outlines how various single-use plastic food and beverage packaging and tableware (such as cutlery and cups) will be removed from Council work locations by 2020.

Travel Devon has joined forces with IKEA to help workers at its new Exeter superstore commute to work in a more sustainable and healthy way.
