University of Exeter signs agreement with city partners to drive economic and social change

The University of Exeter has signed a landmark Civic University Agreement with city partners – the first in the South-West – to improve opportunity, prosperity, wellbeing and the environment for local communities.

Following local consultations, Exeter City Council, the Royal Devon and Exeter NHS Foundation Trust, Exeter College and the University of Exeter have set out their joint mission to drive progress in five areas:

  • Delivering a Net Zero Exeter
  • Aspiration and Opportunity
  • Culture and Tourism

Topsham means business this weekend

This weekend people can enjoy a glimpse of what makes a buzzing local town tick as a host of entrepreneurs and artisans take part in the first-ever Topsham Business Fair.

It’s not just an exhibition - visitors can see examples of what the local businesses make and the services they provide, and they can sample food and drink, or even work off those summer holiday pounds by taking part in free Zumba and Bootcamp try-out sessions.

Tech South West Awards shortlist reveals best in tech from across the region

Live streaming platforms, carbon-neutral artificial reef systems and an app to support breastfeeding mothers are among the technologies developed by finalists at this year’s Tech South West Awards.

Now in their third year, the awards celebrate the best in tech from across the South West including Bath, Bristol, Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly, Devon, Dorset, Gloucestershire, Somerset and Wiltshire.

Co Cars and Co Bikes awarded the first ever double accreditation by national shared transport charity

Car club and bike share operators Co Cars and Co Bikes have been awarded joint accreditation by the UK’s shared transport charity.

Collaborative Mobility UK (CoMoUK) runs the national scheme which provides assurance to local authorities on an agreed set of standards expected by operators when providing services.

South West England operators Co Cars and Co Bikes have received the first double accreditation across shared cars and bikes from CoMoUK, having fulfilled the robust application process.

Exeter apprentice starts new learning journey with Amazon

An apprentice who works at Amazon’s delivery station in Exeter is taking the first step on the path to higher education and new experiences after joining the Amazon Apprenticeship programme.

Amazon is creating 1,000 full-time apprenticeships in the UK this year. The apprenticeships cover 25 different programmes ranging from IT, safety technician and HR through to software engineering and creative digital design. Roles include 100 degree-level apprenticeships and more than 500 apprenticeships for Amazon employees, providing an opportunity to retrain and gain new skills

A south Devon based firm has received a business boost from Retail Entrepreneur Theo Paphitis.
