If you want to strike success in a business meeting- offer a plate of shortbread, new research reveals.

A study of 2,000 business workers found one in four say they’re more inclined to close a deal in a meeting because of the biscuits provided, with shortbread, chocolate bourbons and flapjacks all likely to win a favourable reaction.

In fact, having the right selection of snacks was deemed more crucial to meeting success than making good small talk beforehand, the study found.

Nepal yomp raises £45,000

A 'knee-jerk' fund-raising Yomp to raise money for victims of the Nepal earthquake looks to have raised £45,000.

In a blog post, Paul Mattin, who completed the 170-mile yomp from Devon to the Nepal Embassy with fellow businessman Nick Sprague, thanked those who had contributed to the appeal

Ilfracombe’s Pall taken over in US buyout

The company which runs one of Ilfracombe’s largest employers has been bought by an American giant for $13.8billion.

Pall Corporation has been acquired by Danaher Corporation but will continue to operate under the Pall brand, making filtration, separation and purification technologies.

The Pall factory in Station Road employs several hundred people but it is not known if the deal will have any effect on the North Devon workforce.
