Exeter announces its bid to become the UK’s City of Culture in 2029 

Exeter City Council has today announced it will be submitting an expression of interest (EOI) for the prestigious UK City of Culture title. 

The City of Culture bid follows the culmination of five months extensive engagement and consultation with artists, creatives, cultural organisations and residents to shape the council’s commissioned new five-year Cultural Strategy for Exeter.

Success for Exeter School Olde Timers

Exeter School’s Young Enterprise team has won the Devon & Somerset round of the national YE competition. The Olde Timers, made up of Lower Sixth pupils who sell clocks from recycled materials such as cheese boxes and records, also took the prize for Best Trade Stand at a Devon & Somerset event held at Asda supermarket. The team generated the highest revenue out of the teams there and repeated their success at the Guildhall Christmas event where they sold out of stock. Crowds turn out in force for show

Ideal show-going weather, great crowds and excellent competitions combined to make the second day of the Devon County Show at Westpoint, Exeter a great celebration of rural life.

Show Secretary Ollie Allen said it was wonderful to see the county turn out in force for the 120th Show: “The atmosphere is relaxed and friendly and everyone seems so happy to be enjoying the start of summer here at the show ground.”

It was sunshine all the way on the first day of this year’s Devon County Show.

One of the biggest first day crowds in recent years turned out at Westpoint, Exeter to enjoy the very best of Devon farming and food.

Bank Holiday rail strike suspended

The largest rail union, RMT, has suspended strike action due to take place this Bank Holiday weekend.

In a letter to members this afternoon, general secretary Mick Cash said:

"After four days of talks at conciliation service Acas between your union and Network Rail management, the company has tabled a revised offer.
