Honiton Chamber and FSB announce joint business advice event

Honiton’s Chamber of Commerce and the East Devon branch of the Federation of Small Businesses have joined forces to put on a free business advice and networking event at the Beehive in Honiton, and they are looking for exhibitors to take part.

The ‘Honiton Together’ event on September 24 will see representatives from local banks, accountants, law firms, printers and other organisations coming together under one roof to give advice on a variety of issues from setting up a business to corporation tax, business banking and support services.

Two art projects celebrating the Rugby World Cup 2015 coming to Exeter have won grants from the National Lottery.

The projects showcase the cultures of the visiting nations – Namibia, Tonga, Romania, Italy and Georgia – through film and performance.

Both successfully secured Grants for the Arts from the National Lottery through Arts Council England for Rugby World Cup 2015 projects. They are also being funded by Exeter City Council

New hope for Exeter disabled workers

Devon County Council has offered to help a team of people with disabilities to remain in employment.

Earlier this year, Pluss, an organisation that supports people with disabilities in employment, announced plans to close its unit in Exeter.

The factory employed 37 people in the Exeter factory as skilled upholsterers of items such as headboards for beds, seat covers, as well as upholstery in campervans and boats.

Learn Devon and Devon Libraries have launched a new Opportunity Hub at The Hayridge, Cullompton, providing a programme of employability courses to help people develop their skills and get into work.

The Opportunity Hub will take place every Wednesday from 10.30am-12.30pm at The Hayridge, Exeter Hill, Cullompton EX15 1DJ. People can join at any time. There is no need to book, they can just turn up.

Mascots from across Devon are set to compete to become the county’s first Adventure Golf champion.

City gears up for charity cycle ride

Fifteen hundred cyclists will be heading out of Topsham on Sunday June 28 in an event that has raised more than £300,000 for local cancer charity FORCE in the past four years.

They will leave the rugby club from 8am onwards to tackle 100 or 55 mile routes around the Devon countryside on the annual Nello ride.
