Exeter announces its bid to become the UK’s City of Culture in 2029 

Exeter City Council has today announced it will be submitting an expression of interest (EOI) for the prestigious UK City of Culture title. 

The City of Culture bid follows the culmination of five months extensive engagement and consultation with artists, creatives, cultural organisations and residents to shape the council’s commissioned new five-year Cultural Strategy for Exeter.

This will set out a clear ambition to become a leading city of culture. The new Exeter Culture Strategy is ambitious and will be delivered in partnership with the city’s cultural organisations...

Michelmores Run raises more than £25k

Nearly 1,000 people took part in the 16th Michelmores Charity Run on 11 June, raising over £25,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support – and beating last year's fundraising total.

The fastest male was Owen Walpole who ran the distance in just 16 minutes and 6 seconds − followed in second place by James Denne who finished in 16 minutes and 15 seconds. Third place went to Michelmores' Nathaniel Lane who covered the course in 16 minutes and 55 seconds.

The fastest woman was Cathy Newman with a time of 18 minutes and 32 seconds, followed by Emma Sharples who ran the distance...

RGB hosts first Health & Safety Week

The Exeter branch of RGB Building Supplies will be holding their first ever Health and Safety Week between Monday 15th and Friday 19th June highlighting some of the industry’s health risks and ways that they can be minimised.

The event coincides with the national campaign which aims to encourage companies to implement new initiatives throughout the year to counter any health and safety concerns.

Ofcom introduces clearer call charges

Millions of telephone users in the South West will benefit from clearer call charges being introduced next month by the telecoms regulator Ofcom.

From 1 July, landline and mobile charges will become clearer for calls to numbers starting 084, 087, 09 and 118, while Freephone will become free from mobiles.

People use these ‘service numbers’ every day for finding out information, contacting a business or helpline, or using competition, directory-enquiry, entertainment and voting services.

Michelmores raises £650 for ELF

The Residential Property team at Michelmores took over the Exeter Leukaemia Fund (ELF) shop in Crediton on the 9th June 2015. Raising funds by selling cakes, steaming clothes and dressing the store windows the team raised £650 in one day for the charity.

The Exeter Leukaemia Fund supports families affected by blood cancers and blood disorders across the South West by providing compassionate, tailored support in the Yarty ward at the RD&E where around 400 patients are treated each week.

Rob Baxter believes there is “more to come” from Byron McGuigan after the talented back today agreed to extend his stay with the Exeter Chiefs for another year at least.
