Exeter announces its bid to become the UK’s City of Culture in 2029 

Exeter City Council has today announced it will be submitting an expression of interest (EOI) for the prestigious UK City of Culture title. 

The City of Culture bid follows the culmination of five months extensive engagement and consultation with artists, creatives, cultural organisations and residents to shape the council’s commissioned new five-year Cultural Strategy for Exeter.

Appeal after pedestrian killed on A380

Police are appealing for information following a fatal road traffic collision on the A380 Torquay Road in the early hours of this morning (Sunday 26 July).

Police were called at around 1.30am to a report of a collision involving a pedestrian on the A380 Torquay Road near to its junction with Aller Brake Road.

On arrival officers found a male pedestrian having sustained fatal injuries, after being involved in a collision with a vehicle which has failed to stop.

The Family Law Company’s Associate Solicitor, Grace Bradley has been shortlisted in the prestigious national Family Law Awards.

Grace qualified in 2009, having studied Law and German in Scotland and Germany. Unusually, she is qualified in both Scots and English law. Bank gives back to the community

In April NatWest Devon Commercial Banking announced St Loye’s Foundation as their nominated charity of the year.

After only three months NatWest Devon have already held several fundraising days such as an in work Tuck Shop, a book exchange and raffles in which all proceeds go to St Loye’s Foundation.

A team of 11 are also planning to do the Welsh Three Peaks Challenge in September, tackling Mount Snowdon in the North, Cadair Idris in mid-Wales and Pen y Fan in the South with an aim of climbing all three peaks in just 24 hours.

A further 100,000 additional Rugby World Cup tickets will go on sale from July 27 it was announced today.

Operation Slug on the trail of allotment thieves

Police in Exeter are launching a crime fighting operation to tackle theft of garden and power tools from allotments across the city.

Known as Operation Slug, allotment owners will be issued with a special kit that contains Smartwater, an invisible property-marking solution. Warning signs will be displayed to help deter burglars.

Each kit allows plot owners to mark their possessions with a unique forensic code that is traceable. This can then be used by the police to identify items should they ever be stolen, as well as help link suspects to crime scenes.
