Exeter announces its bid to become the UK’s City of Culture in 2029 

Exeter City Council has today announced it will be submitting an expression of interest (EOI) for the prestigious UK City of Culture title. 

The City of Culture bid follows the culmination of five months extensive engagement and consultation with artists, creatives, cultural organisations and residents to shape the council’s commissioned new five-year Cultural Strategy for Exeter.

City architects, Living Space, are celebrating planning success, today, thanks to a winning application to convert office space back into residential dwellings more than 200 years after they were built.

The terrace of three Georgian townhouses, 38­-40 Southernhay were constructed around the time of the old Royal Devon & Exeter Hospital but have, like much of the tree lined square, been used as commercial space for decades. Community secure use of Rolle College site

People in Exmouth will soon be able to access and use part of the town’s former Rolle College site, it was revealed yesterday.

Community benefit society Rolle Exmouth Limited (REL) has signed a licence with the owners of the site, Plymouth University, on behalf of the Exmouth community, granting them the right to use the Owen Building.

The group is describing it as a ‘major step’ in reinvigorating the site, empty since the University relocated its Faculty of Arts and Education in 2008.

Chime Social Enterprise, the hearing experts have recently been awarded the highest quality accreditation for their services gaining the prestigious Improving Quality in Physiological Services (IQIPS) accreditation from the United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS).

Over 80% of British consumers reported feelings of happiness and contentment when they purchase goods or services from small and independent businesses, compared to just 53% who buy from large chains, according to new research.

Buses across Exeter have been decked out with scarves’ vinyls welcoming the visiting countries playing Rugby World Cup matches at Sandy Park.

The 50 giant scarves, designed by Storm Press, are in the colours of the five nations playing in Exeter: Tonga, Namibia, Georgia, Italy and Romania. They welcome each country in their native language. Buses will also carry scarves with the traditional ‘Come on England’ message.
