Devon and Cornwall police are reminding people during the busy run up to Christmas to keep their possessions safe from opportunist thieves. Officers will be working closely with partners in the community to roll out a number initiatives over the coming weeks.

People are advised to protect their Christmas purchases by storing them out of sight, so burglars aren’t tempted to steal them.

A former light and power station is producing energy once again...but now renewable energy from the sun.

One of Exeter’s most iconic industrial buildings, the former City of Exeter Light and Power Station - known today as the home to the popular Quay Climbing Centre, has just had a large solar array installed on its roof.

Disadvantaged children across the world will receive gifts this Christmas - thanks to the generosity and goodwill of the Exeter community and flexible workplace provider Regus. Over the last few weeks, individuals and groups have donated over 300 present-filled shoeboxes at the local Regus centres at Southernhay Gardens and Exeter Business Park which have supported the ‘Operation Christmas Child’ appeal for the third year running. Free Sunday parking in Newton Abbot

Teignbridge District Council is opening Newton Abbot’s multi-storey car park to provide extra free Sunday car parking in the festive run-up to Christmas.

The 296-space long stay car park will open on Sundays of December 6, December 13 and December 20 and won’t cost a penny to park in.

The move was introduced in response to a request from traders and is aimed at giving shoppers more choice to park for free as well as supporting shops and businesses during the busy Christmas shopping season.

South West Water fined £300,000 for polluting Devon stream

South West Water has been ordered to pay over £300,000 in fines and costs after polluting a Devon watercourse in a case brought by the Environment Agency.

Plymouth Crown Court heard how a combination of equipment failure and poor management on the part of South West Water led to poorly treated sewage entering the Craddock stream, downstream from its Ashill Sewage Treatment Works, near Cullompton.

The Environment Agency found pollution in the stream in September 2013 and again in December 2013 which affected a 400 metre stretch of water and impacted on river life.
