School crossing patrol consultation launches

A consultation reviewing how school crossing patrols should be funded and provided in the county is being launched by Devon County Council.

The authority is exploring ways to maintain the service while looking to save £250,000 from the service’s budget in the coming financial year. It is part of £110 million of savings required over the next four years.

Volunteers who worked in Exeter’s Rugby World Cup 2015 Fanzone have been thanked by the Lord Mayor of Exeter.

Lord Mayor, Councillor Olwen Foggin, hosted a celebration event at Exeter’s historic Guildhall on Wednesday evening (25 November), to acknowledge the huge effort that the Exeter Fanzone volunteers had made during Rugby World Cup 2015.

Exeter is one of over 50 UK cities that has pledged to be run entirely on green energy by 2050.

The City Council has joined the likes of London, Edinburgh, Manchester, Newcastle, Liverpool and Leeds to make the environmental commitment to dramatically reduce CO2 emissions.

Drainage improvements planned for Sidmouth

Drainage improvements are due to be carried out in Temple Street in Sidmouth early next year.

The road will be closed from Ascerton Road to Sid Park Road for five weeks, starting from Monday 18 January.

New drainage pipes and connections will be installed, old brick gullies will be replaced, and gulley covers and frames will be upgraded. The scheme also involves reconstruction and resurfacing of the road and footway.

Devon's Youth Offending Service has received a nationally acclaimed accreditation for the way it works with young offenders and their victims.

A married couple have been jailed for a string historic sexual offences dating back to the 1980s.

David Williams sentenced to life in prison, and wife Pauline Williams jailed for 12 years plus four years extended license today (Wednesday 25th November), following trial at Exeter Crown Court in October.

David and Pauline Williams have been convicted on a number of charges following a catalogue of abuse that started in Gloucester in the 1980s and continued when they moved to Devon in the 1990s.
