Increase in reports of domestic abuse

More people suffering domestic abuse are reporting the crime, according to a report from Her Majesty’s Inspectorate of Constabulary (HMIC).

The recent report shows a 31% rise in reported cases of domestic abuse between 2013 and 2015.

Pensioner found dead following house fire

Members of the public are being asked to keep an eye on their neighbours at Christmas to help keep them safe from fire.

The appeal follows a fire in Mount Dinham, Exeter, on 10 December, during which firefighters discovered the body of a man.

Three fire crews attended the incident and extinguished the fire. The 89-year-old man was found close to a gas fire in a ground floor lounge.

Investigations are continuing into the incident and a report will be prepared for the Coroner but there have been several fire-related deaths that Devon & Somerset Fire & Rescue...

Police are appealing to the public to help them trace 15-year-old Abbie Grant who was last seen on the 8th December in the High Street area of Exeter.

Abbie is a white female, 5ft 4 tall, medium build with black shoulder length hair tied in a ponytail.

She was wearing grey jogging bottoms and a navy blue sweatshirt and has links to both Newton Abbot and Exeter areas.

New Dawlish cycle link approved

Proposals for a safe cycle link between Dawlish Warren and Dawlish town centre has been approved.

Councillors at Devon County Council’s Cabinet Meeting on Wednesday, December 9, backed a scheme which will extend the Exe Estuary walking and cycling route from Dawlish Warren towards Dawlish Town Centre.

The scheme, which has an estimated cost of £621,485, is one of several which, when combined, will eventually link Dawlish Warren to Dawlish Town Centre.

Once completed it will create a shared use footway/cycle route on the south western side of Exeter Road.

Astronomers from the University of Exeter have helped shed light on the atmospheres of a group of planets which orbit stars outside our solar system, known as exoplanets.

Exeter academics led an international team of experts in analysing observations from the NASA/ESA Hubble Space Telescope and the NASA Spitzer Space Telescope.

Their combined power gave a detailed study of the atmospheres of 10 hot-Jupiter exoplanets – the largest number ever collectively studied – in a bid to understand their atmospheres.

South Devon Highway opens

Devon County Council and Torbay Council, along with Galliford Try, have announced that the South Devon Highway is now open to traffic.

The new 5.5km dual carriageway opened to traffic in the early hours of Tuesday morning (15/12/15) in a phased process. Early on Monday evening a temporary closure of Hamelin Way, Torquay took place which enabled the removal of the roundabout at Kerswell Gardens and a final section of white lining painted on the intersections.
