Woman dies in head-on crash in East Devon

Police are appealing for witnesses after a fatal crash in East Devon.

At approximately 6pm on Saturday 30 January two vehicles were involved in a head on collision on the A35 Charmouth Road, Axminster.

A Honda car from the Dorset area and a Vauxhall Zafira from the Isle of Wight were involved in the collision.

As a result a 46-year-old woman from the Isle of Wight received fatal injuries.

Two other occupants of the same vehicle remain in a critical condition in Hospital.

Next of kin have been informed and enquiries are ongoing.

Volunteer recruitment drive for city charity

A new volunteer recruitment drive has been launched by city charity, Citizens Advice Exeter.

The organisation is looking for volunteers who can spare between eight and ten hours a week and offers a comprehensive training programme.

It is holding an informal open session on Wednesday, March 9 at its office in Dix’s Field, Exeter. Potential volunteers will be able to find out more about the charity’s work, chat with some current volunteers, find out about the training programme and meet the supervisors.

A team featuring a flood expert from the University of Exeter’s Centre for Water Systems (CWS) has claimed first prize for the creation of an app that will aid global flood management and help save lives.

Record number of countryside visitors

Research has revealed that green spaces and the countryside are more popular with the public than ever.

And East Devon District Council’s Countryside Team can vouch for that as latest figures reveal that record numbers of people visited their stunning sites in 2015.

Falcon set to fly across the region

Stagecoach South West announced today the launch of the South West Falcon: the first dedicated 24/7 coach service connecting major locations across the South West.

The service starts on Sunday 14th February (3.30am departure from Plymouth and 7am departure from Bristol) and will operate 19 journeys a day, 7 days a week between Plymouth, Exeter, Taunton, Bristol Airport and Bristol City Centre, allowing passengers to travel to their chosen destinations both day and night.

The Leaders of Exeter City Council and Teignbridge District Council have written to Ministers expressing their dismay at the Government’s unwillingness to fund rail in the South West.

Exeter Chiefs head coach Rob Baxter has today spoken of his delight at the news that four of his current first-team squad have all agreed deals to extend their stay with the Aviva Premiership club.

An Exeter electrical contractor has launched an innovative software product that looks set to improve the efficiency of electrical testing for contractors nationwide.

Electrical Testing Surveyors, based in Merlin Business Park near Exeter Airport has been testing the Windows-based software, ETAS, for two years with its own team of inspectors. ETAS carries out electrical installation testing, analysis, reporting and management, and can improve testing efficiency by at least 25 per cent.

Businesses across Exeter could be losing tens of thousands of pounds by failing to protect their telephone systems from fraudsters.
