The first weekend of the Devon County Swimming Championships took place at the Plymouth Lifecentre on the 16th and 17th January and Exeter City Swimming Club brought a mountain of silverware and medals back to Exeter.

Team Captain Dominic Wooldridge led the way by winning the Championship finals and picking up two trophies in the 200 fly and the 400 freestyle. Dom also took 3rd place in the 200 IM. Stevenson heads back to the Chiefs

Exeter Chiefs have today welcomed back Irishman Lewis Stevenson to the Aviva Premiership club on a deal until the end of the season.

The 31-year-old forward, who spent two seasons at Sandy Park between 2007 and 2009, returns to the Westcountry from Guinness Pro 12 outfit Ulster Rugby.

A new crowdfunding initiative has been launched by a University of Exeter PhD researcher in a bid to secure backing to help expand their bird conservation research.

Funding received will cover expenses such as equipment, running costs and compensation for the volunteers that take unpaid leave to support the research.

Donations can be made via the crowd-funding website, which features various bonuses for the amount donated. All donations are accepted, but pledging as much as £30 will result in a pack of postcards with a sketch of a bird species, designed by a member of the...

Woman seriously injured in Devon collision

Police are appealing for witnesses to a collision on the A361 near Barnstaple on Sunday which left a woman passenger with serious injuries.

Emergency services were called at 4.05pm after the head-on collision between a Land Rover Freelander and a Skoda Yeti between West Buckland and Landkey.

The female passenger of the Yeti was extracted from the vehicle by the fire service and was taken to North Devon District Hospital with serious injuries. The Bideford woman, who is in her 30s, was later transferred to Derriford Hospital in Plymouth.

The South West’s housing market has seen a rise in demand following the Government’s recent announcement that stamp duty is set to increase for buy-to-let investors, the latest survey by the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) has revealed.
