Cancer death rates drop in South West

People across the South West are being urged to show their support for World Cancer Day today (February 4) as Cancer Research UK releases new figures revealing that cancer death rates in the region have fallen by 9 per cent over the last 10 years.

The charity is encouraging everyone in the region to wear a Unity Band or make a donation to demonstrate their support for people affected by cancer.

Plans to enhance Exeter valley parks revealed

Exciting new plans to enhance the Riverside and Ludwell Valley Parks in Exeter have been revealed.

Proposals include introducing orchards, wildflower meadows, ponds and woods. Wild play areas look set to be brought in, along with a new cycle link, better signposting and information points.

Increasing urban property prices and falling land values could be fuelling a rise in new rural business start-ups, the latest survey by the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) and Royal Agricultural University (RAU) indicates. Non-farmers, such as those starting up cottage industries, accounted for 27% of rural land sales in the South West over the past six months according to the RICS/RAU Rural Land Market Survey H2 2015. Police are appealing for witnesses after an altercation took place near The Strand at Exmouth, on Sunday the 31st January at around 2pm.

Detective Sergeant Pete Boorn said: “We are currently investigating an alleged fight that took place outside The Strand in Exmouth.

"While one man has been charged in connection with this incident, we believe that there were a large amount of witnesses present who could help police with their enquiries.
