Storm Imogen traffic updates

There are flood alerts for the River Axe, Lower Exe, Rivers Otter and Sid, Middle Exe, Clyst and Culm and River Teign and an amber warning remains in place for strong winds.

Update: 4pm:

Reports of an obstruction on the railway track between Exeter St Davids and Taunton currently is blocking the line.

A reduced hourly train service will run between Birmingham New Street and Plymouth.

Rydon Lane is blocked inbound near Russell Way due to a fallen tree, outbound only one lane is open. Motorists advised to find an alternative route.

Traffic signal maintenance in Exeter

Essential maintenance work is planned to start on traffic signals at the Magdalen Road/St Leonards Road/College Road Junction in Exeter on Monday 15 February.

Devon County Council will replace the signals, poles and electrics, which are at the end of their serviceable lives, and cable ducting will be replaced where required.

Temporary traffic signals will be in place while the work is carried out.

The scheme is expected to be completed on Wednesday 2 March.

2,000 SW homes without power

Some 2,000 homes in the South West have suffered power failues when Storm Imogen hit, according to Western Power Distribution.

A spokesperson said: "We have a range of measures in place during the winter period to ensure we’re fully prepared for any impact on our electricity network.

"We have additional operational and engineering staff ready and on stand-by, as well as extra Contact and Control Centre operatives available to manage the electricity network and to help customers with their enquiries.

Baxter reflects on Saracens defeat

Exeter Chiefs head coach Rob Baxter insisted he would not panic despite seeing his side’s 15-match winning streak at Sandy Park ended by visiting Saracens.

Police are advising people to take extra care on Monday 8 February after the Met Office issued an amber weather warning of very strong winds.

Heavy rain and strong winds with gusts of between 60 and 70 mph are likely from 3am on Monday morning.

As a result, traffic disruption is expected due to fallen trees and flooded roads.

Motorists are asked to drive carefully, allow extra time for their journeys and avoid all flooded areas.

Exeter Chiefs saw their 13-month long unbeaten home record fall by the wayside as defending Aviva Premiership champions Saracens came back from 11-0 down to record victory at a packed Sandy Park.

Exeter Chiefs head coach Rob Baxter has spoken of his delight after four of the club’s highly-rated youngsters today put pen to paper on new deals.

Talented back Max Bodilly has been rewarded for some sparkling form with a new two-year contract extension, whilst Stu Townsend and Ed Holmes have also agreed new two-year deals from the start of next season.

Exeter Chiefs star Jack Nowell described England’s RBS Six Nations victory over Scotland as “massive” and hopes Eddie Jones’ side can now kick on in the competition.

In a hard fought encounter, Cornishman Nowell claimed his eighth international try as he followed up an earlier score from George Kruis to help England to a 15-9 success. Community fund available to Exeter groups

RGB Building Supplies is giving charities, groups and schools in the Exeter area one final chance to receive £1,000 worth of building materials before its Well Built Community Fund is relaunched again in April with a new look.

Over the past two years the builders merchant has donated £10,000 worth of products to a wide range of different organisations in the region as part of the Community Fund. Now they are inviting groups that need help to complete an outdoor project to come forward and explain how £1,000 worth of materials will help.
