Exmouth homes to benefit from improved flood defences

East Devon District Council is working with the Environment Agency to upgrade the sea and estuary defences in Exmouth. The proposed project will reduce the risk of flooding to over 1,000 homes in Exmouth.

Lead by experts from the University of Exeter, the latest technology will be applied to RAMM’s collections to reveal where the city’s food and ceramics came from during 1st to the 16th centuries. Free child care places for two-year-olds

Devon County Council is encouraging parents to take up the opportunity to have free child care for their two-year-olds.

The Council provides funding to childcare and early years education providers for families in receipt of certain benefits so they can have a free place.

The Council says that many parents are unaware of the funding, or of the benefits that child care can provide.

In an effort to make people more aware, the Council is writing to families who are eligible for the funding to offer them free childcare.

The Canal Bridges in Exeter will be opened at 11am on Wednesday (9 March).

This is expected to take approximately 10 minutes to enable boats to pass through.

Please be aware that the timings are approximate and there may be traffic delays which may take a while to clear after the opening.

Brown to depart Chiefs for France

Exeter Chiefs can confirm that prop Alex Brown is to leave at the end of the current season.

The 26-year-old tight-head, who signed for the Devon club during the summer of 2012 from Doncaster Knights, is to join French Pro D2 outfit Perpignan on a two-year deal.

Although Brown still had a year to run on his existing deal at Sandy Park, the Chiefs have agreed to release him from his contract by mutual consent.

Angry Baxter bemoans defeat

A bit like the Incredible Hulk, you wouldn’t like to see him angry.

However, as Rob Baxter emerged for his post-match press conference, Exeter’s commander in chief was still seething with rage at what he had just seen.

His anger - it has to be said - was somewhat two-fold. Firstly, at his own side’s first half display, one in which they didn’t really ever hit second gear and secondly, more importantly, the performance of referee Matt Carley and his fellow officials.
