Exeter Racecourse hosted its first networking event of the year with a sell-out gathering that was buzzing with enthusiasm, as businesses from across the region came together full of optimism for the year ahead. Delegates enjoyed a productive morning of networking, followed by afternoon racing.

The Exeter Business Improvement District has announced the winner of its Capture Exeter photography competition.

Terry Welch took the winning photograph, taken from the viewpoint of Exeter Castle. The image was chosen due to the unusual viewpoint, showing a different part of the city centre that many may have not seen before. The competition, launched at the start of February, asked budding photographers to capture what they love most about Exeter in one glorious image to be in with a chance of winning £100 worth of Jessops vouchers and a Jessops photography course.

First time buyers in the South West will need £51,000 salary to afford an average home by 2020, warns Shelter

Typical first time buyers will need to earn £51k a year by 2020, new research by housing and homelessness charity Shelter shows. This is more than 30% more than the £38k needed for a typical first time buyer’s mortgage today. On top of this they would need a typical deposit of £47,000 to keep up with rocketing house prices in the region, which are projected to rise to £236,000 over the next four years. Charlotte Harding, her mum, Sue and friend Mouna Souyad all have a very special reason to take part in next month’s Exeter Neon Night Run.

Exeter Hospiscare nurses and doctors cared for their good friend Mary Christopher at the city’s Searle House Hospice.

The Neon Run, on Saturday 28 May, will raise funds for the hospice which is a local charity, helping local people.

Highway maintenance budgets agreed

Devon County Council’s Cabinet today (Wednesday 13 April) agreed its highway maintenance budgets for this financial year.

The Council has received £38.785 million of funding from the Department for Transport for capital maintenance of its highway network, the longest of any authority in the country at 8,000 miles. Cabinet decided how the money will be used for structural repairs that extend the life of everything that makes up the highway, including repairs to road surfaces, retaining walls, bridges, and street lighting.

Following formal identification, the lorry driver who died as a result of the collision which closed the A38 near Exeter on Saturday morning (9th April) has been named as Andrew Small, 32, from Torquay.

A primary school teacher from Devon has launched an app 'Fonics' designed to help 3-6 year olds learn how to read more effectively. The app is free and is available to download now across all major app stores.

Labour's national housing spokesman has singled out Exeter for praise for its record of delivering affordable housing, but warns the city's job will be harder because of the latest policies from Government.

Appeal after woman assaulted in Exeter car park

Police are appealing for witnesses after a woman was assaulted and two cars were damaged in a car park in Exeter at the weekend.

A 46-year-old local woman was assaulted by a man, who was known to her, in the Stone Lane Retail Park in Marsh Barton on Sunday 10 April at around 3.45pm.

The wing mirrors and a windscreen wiper were reported to have been damaged on a silver Volkswagen Touran, which was parked next to the Matalan store.

A black Skoda was also damaged during the incident.

A 25-year-old man, from Dawlish, was arrested on suspicion of common assault...
