Exeter-based employment lawyer joins Westbank Community Health and Care’s Board of Trustees

The Devon-wide health and wellbeing charity, Westbank Community Health and Care, is delighted to welcome lawyer Henry Cross as its newest Trustee. Henry is a Senior Associate at Michelmores, specialising in employment law.

A father-of-two from Exeter, Henry already had a broad awareness of the charity when he met Westbank’s Head of Carers Services, Andy Hood, at a networking event a few years ago. SW ambulance service a research trailblazer

More emergency care patients in the South West of England have the opportunity to take part in research studies out of hospital than ever before.

Six years ago South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust (SWASFT) was not conducting a single research study on the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) portfolio and had no research-active paramedics.

In 2014/15 SWASFT was the top patient recruiting ambulance trust in England and it is the first ambulance service to sponsor a Health Technology Assessment (HTA) funded study.

SW construction market bucks national slowdown trend

The latest survey by the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) has revealed that growth in the construction market has remained positive in the South West over the last three months. Private housing workloads showed the greatest increase with 48% more of those working in the sector reporting a rise in activity rather than a fall over the first quarter of 2016. During the last quarter of 2015 that figure was 28%. Officers from Devon, Cornwall and Dorset’s Road Policing Team will be mounting a week long campaign, targeting drivers of all types of vehicles who flout road traffic laws on roads.

Operation Vortex targets poor, inconsiderate and complacent driving across the region and aims to reduce the number of collisions and casualties on our roads.

Big boost for Devon residents and businesses with slow internet connections

Connection vouchers worth up to £500 are now available to residents and businesses across Devon and Somerset.

The vouchers will cover the cost of connecting to an improved broadband service to boost broadband speeds from 2Mbps, or under, to a minimum of 10Mbps.

Man seriously injured in South Devon crash

Police are appealing for witnesses to a collision in which a man was seriously injured near Teignmouth.

Officers were called to the scene shortly before 1am on Tuesday 19 April following reports of a single vehicle collision on the A381 Newton Road near Bishopsteignton.

A silver Suzuki Ignis collided with a stone wall near the Metro Motors car sales garage and the vehicle rolled causing significant damage to the car.

Britain’s fastest growing supermarket, Lidl UK, has revealed plans to open its 12th Regional Distribution Centre (RDC) in East Devon, following the submission of a planning application to build the 50,000 m² warehouse on a site at Clyst Honiton.
