Network Plus Envolve opens Exeter Science Park office to support major water programme

Network Plus Envolve, a joint venture between Network Plus and Envolve Infrastructure , has established new offices at Exeter Science Park to support the delivery of a new framework with South West Water.

Approximately 15 engineers, project managers and technical specialists will be based at Envolve’s new offices within the George Parker Bidder Building - a net-zero carbon facility at Exeter Science Park. The team is expected to grow significantly, potentially doubling within the next 12 to 18 months.

The Exeter Business Improvement District is introducing an enhanced street cleaning service with the appointment of an operative who will take on the role.

The service, funded by Exeter BID, will provide additional cleaning to the BID area to ensure an improved environment for local businesses and visitors to the city. The housing crisis is deepening as concerns mount about the availability and quality of homes, while increasing numbers aspire to own the roof over their head, according to the 2016 Homeowner Survey conducted by YouGov for HomeOwners Alliance and BLP Insurance.

East Devon adopts CIL charging schedule

As from Wednesday 20 April 2016, East Devon District Council has formally adopted the Community Infrastructure Levy charging schedule (CIL).

The charge will come into effect on 1 September 2016, allowing the council time to establish an internal process for the collection and administration of the levy. It will also give applicants and developers a reasonable lead time to become aware of the charges that will apply from that date.

The CIL is a planning charge, introduced by the Planning Act 2008, which local authorities can choose to levy on new developments in their area...

More heavy showers on the way

Another yellow weather warning for rain has been issued by the Met Office as further heavy showers are expected across parts of Devon.

Some of these showers will become slow moving, leading to 15-25mm of rain within an hour locally.

Where the showers do occur, hail and thunder and lightning is also possible.

Motorists should be aware of the potential for localised surface water flooding and difficult driving conditions.

The warning is valid from noon until 10pm today (Wednesday).

Two Cornish schools have won £500 following ThinkBIG – a 'Dragons Den' style contest for primary school children held by The Cornwall Association of Primary Heads (CAPH), in partnership with the Education team at law firm, Michelmores.

Winners Kehelland Village School in Camborne and Lanner Primary School in Redruth impressed the judging panel with their innovative ideas on how they would spend £500 to improve one aspect of school life.

Teenagers robbed and assaulted in Exeter

Police in Exeter are investigating an assault and robbery that took place in the St Thomas area of the city on Monday night, 9th May 2016.

At around 7pm two men, aged 17 and 18, were approached by three strangers in Merrivale Park.

The three suspects, all described as wearing black or grey hoodies which were up and face masks or balaclavas, attacked the two men.

The 17 year-old suffered a slight facial injury while the 18 year-old was repeatedly hit over the head.

He was treated by an ambulance crew at the scene and taken to the Royal Devon and Exeter...

More Sunday trains to run between Exeter and Exmouth

Great Western Railway (GWR) will run extra trains on Sundays between Exeter Central and Exmouth from 15 May.

Trains will run every half hour through most of the day on Sundays throughout the year, instead of the previous hourly service; with a number extending to Exeter St Davids. All trains will call at Digby & Sowton, Newcourt, Topsham and Lympstone Village stations.
