Exeter-based employment lawyer joins Westbank Community Health and Care’s Board of Trustees

The Devon-wide health and wellbeing charity, Westbank Community Health and Care, is delighted to welcome lawyer Henry Cross as its newest Trustee. Henry is a Senior Associate at Michelmores, specialising in employment law.

A father-of-two from Exeter, Henry already had a broad awareness of the charity when he met Westbank’s Head of Carers Services, Andy Hood, at a networking event a few years ago. When he subsequently learnt that Westbank was looking for a law-oriented Trustee to join its Board, he was quick to express his interest in the role.

Improvement in overall experience at NDHT

The overall experience of inpatients at Northern Devon Healthcare NHS Trust (NDHT) has improved this year, according to the latest national inpatient survey.

Nearly 600 people shared their views about the care they received at NDHT.

The results have been published by the Care Quality Commission as part of its look at standards around the country.

The survey also puts NDHT in the top fifth of trusts for issues such as feeling looked after by hospital staff and the level of respect and dignity for patients.

Independent Exmouth visitor survey underway

A visitors survey is being carried out in Exmouth by an independent team of researchers over the next few months as part of an initiative by the town’s Coastal Community Team.

The study will provide key information about the Exmouth visitor economy and will involve a team of trained interviewers speaking face to face to around 1,000 people visiting the town from this month to October.

South West care home market sees "increased activity"

Specialist business property adviser, Christie & Co, has reported increased activity in the care home market in the South West over the first half of 2016 as compared to the same period last year.

Christie & Co’s South West team, which includes offices in Bristol, Cardiff and Exeter, has completed on 40% more care businesses, and agreed deals at an increase of almost 25%, than this time last year.

Insurance brokers complete 66 mile challenge

Two directors of a Devon insurance company have completed a big health and fitness challenge all in aid of charity.

Northcott Beaton Directors Nick Beaton and Keiron Northcott have been in training with David Lloyd fitness expert Simon Wilson for the last five months and have raised over £3,000 after completing the Exe Valley Endurance, a 66 mile walk, over the 11th and 12th June.

The money will go to the Exeter Foundation, the Exeter Chiefs charity, which supports a number of community charities including ELF, Dream Away and Force.
