The Devon-wide health and wellbeing charity, Westbank Community Health and Care, is delighted to welcome lawyer Henry Cross as its newest Trustee. Henry is a Senior Associate at Michelmores, specialising in employment law.

A father-of-two from Exeter, Henry already had a broad awareness of the charity when he met Westbank’s Head of Carers Services, Andy Hood, at a networking event a few years ago. Sir Ken Knight visits Devon & Somerset Fire & Rescue Service

Devon & Somerset Fire & Rescue Service hosted former Chief Fire and Rescue Adviser Sir Ken Knight on Monday 20 June, to discuss the Service’s progress on recommendations in his 2013 report Facing the Future.

Leading actors join Somme centenary celebrations

Leading British actors Jim Carter & Imelda Staunton are to join folk band Show of Hands in a special Battle of the Somme centenary concert in Exeter Cathedral on July 1st.

Ambitious plans to move flood-prone primary

The governors of Tipton St John Primary School have announced ambitious plans to re-locate their ageing, flood-prone buildings to a brand new site.

The Church of England school has been flooded on a number of occasions with children being evacuated and the school being shut for major clean-up operations.

The governors had applied to Education Minister Lord Nash for funding to re-locate the school within the village.

But they have now been told that the Government will not fund the move to another village site.

Road closure postponed due to poor weather

Poor weather conditions have forced a planned road closure on the A361 North Devon Link Road to be postponed again.

The closure for resurfacing work between Bolham roundabout and Station Road, South Molton, was due to take place between 6am and 4pm from Tuesday 21 June to Thursday 23 June.

The work will be re-scheduled to take place in the coming weeks. Re-scheduled dates have yet to be confirmed but will be publicised in advance.

Digital marketing apprentice secures position following course success

A digital marketing agency has created a full time position for its first apprentice following the successful completion of her course.

MiHi Digital, which was founded by Mark Worden from his living room on the Exeter Quayside almost three years ago, has grown exponentially year on year, seeing a 60% increase in new clients in the past 12 months and expanding its team as a result.

An Exeter Daily reader today blamed Westpoint for much of the traffic chaos ahead of Elton John's concery in Exeter last night.

Gary, from Yeovil, said the problems appeared to be due to the parking of vehicles once inside the ground.

In an email, he said: "One marshall told us that 'people had arrived in the wrong cars' suggesting that people were having difficulty parking on the wet grass unless they were in a 4x4.

"When we got near to the parking places it was obvious that there were very few stewards visible and there seemed to be no coordination whatsoever....

Devon Libraries & Bookstart launch successful Bounce & Rhyme beach events

Under 5’s and their families celebrated National Bookstart Week with FREE Bounce & Rhyme events on the beaches of Devon.

Over 350 parents and children attended the events which were designed to encourage reading as a fun activity. They were held by Devon Libraries in conjunction with Bookstart and Children's Centre staff across the county. Themed ‘Under the Sea’, events were held at Ilfracombe, Teignmouth, Dawlish, Dartmouth & Exmouth and were aimed at under 5’s and their parents and carers.

Business leaders from a wide range of Devon companies and organisations gathered on Tuesday 14 June at a joint celebration of the Queen’s Awards for Enterprise and the Devon Delivers Ambassadors’ programme.

Traffic chaos at Elton John concert

Westpoint has issued an apology after some music fans missed out on Elton John's concert in Exeter last night.

Five-mile tailbacks built up going into the showground, leading to chaotic scenes.

Westpoint bosses used twitter to keep those trying to attend informed.

They said a mixture of issues had contributed to the problems including a number of minor accidents.

One tweet said: "We are sorry people are experiencing delays due to traffic jams. The management are fully aware of the situation and are taking on feedback."
