Charity launches search for inspirational people

A leading provider of British Sign Language (BSL) and other deaf and deafblind qualifications in the UK has launched its search for the South West’s most inspirational people involved in the deaf and deafblind community.

South West Estate Agents Helmores, based in Crediton, have secured four new awards from Property Sharing Experts, the South West and London’s largest Estate Agency and homes directory.

Over 300 people attended the PSE Gala Awards Dinner at Woodbury Park, Exeter, compered by Alan Dedicoat – best known as the “voice of the balls” on the BBC’s national lottery programme.

Exmouth Leisure Centre gets Sport England cash boost

Exmouth Leisure Centre is set for a major transformation thanks to £300,000 of National Lottery funding from Sport England’s Improvement Fund.

The facility is one of 19 projects across England to share in £6.5 million of National Lottery investment from the latest round of funding, which is helping clubs refurbish their facilities.

Exeter Chiefs newcomer Greg Holmes says he is “excited” by the challenge that lies ahead as he prepares to join up with the Aviva Premiership club in the coming weeks.

The Axe Vale Festival raised the standard once again for 2016.

Much loved by locals and visitors, the entertainment this year took the festival into another league with a mix of forestry skills courtesy of Adams Axmen, courage, teamwork and entertainment from the Rockwood Dogs Display team and the awe inspiring Adrenaline Tour motorcycle and quad bike stunt show which had everyone gasping as Jason Smyth repeatedly took to the air executing incredible leaps.

Increased dairy returns must go to farmers ‘as soon as possible’

As dairy prices start to rally after a slump which has seen the number of dairy farmers in Britain halve in a decade and the milk price tumble by more than a third in the last 18 months, NFU South West dairy board chairman Andrew Branton is challenging milk processors to ensure that increased returns are passed along to farmers quickly, to ensure as many as possible stay in business.
