There was an all star local line up when Exeter Chiefs rugby player Tom Johnson launched his testimonial.

Hundreds of guests enjoyed the summer sunshine at Rockbeare Manor, which has recently undergone refurbishment.

Among those present were many of the current Chiefs squad including Jack Yeandle, Carl Rimmer, Haydn Thomas and Kai Horstman.

Deservedly earning the reputation for being one of the nicest men in rugby, Tom has played a key role in the success of the Exeter Chiefs and enjoyed the rare honour of playing for his country.

Exeter pound to launch new note

The Exeter Pound is launching a new £E4.50 note on the Quay on Saturday 30th July from 12 noon to mark the 450th anniversary of the Exeter Ship Canal.

The new note will arrive at the Quay by boat having travelled along the ship canal from the Double Locks carried by a Tudor merchant in the costume of 1566 when the ship canal first opened. The merchant will in fact be Martyn Goss, a Director of the Exeter Pound. The new note will be presented to the Lord Mayor of Exeter in the Custom House.

The 'Twenty Sixteen' Golf Course at Exeter Golf and Country Club was officially opened on Monday 18th July with an afternoon of golf, fizz and Devon cream teas.

Following a rigorous executive recruitment process, the Royal Devon and Exeter NHS Foundation Trust has today announced the appointment of Julie Hartley-Jones CBE as the Trust’s new Chief Executive.

Julie was offered the role after successfully completing a challenging two-day selection process at the RD&E in June alongside other shortlisted candidates. SW commuters resent their journeys

Nearly half (48 per cent) of commuters in the South West say that they resent the commute and 44 per cent are actively looking for a job where they don’t have to commute – more than anywhere else in the UK - according to a new survey.

A nationwide poll of public transport commuters, commissioned by bitesize reading app Joosr (www.joosr.com), found that commuters in the South West experienced lower satisfaction levels than in most other parts of the country and many did not have enough time to do other things.

Consultation on A30 improvement plans

A public consultation on proposals to improve the A30 near Honiton will be launched at the Honiton Show next month (August).

Devon County Council is developing route options for the scheme and will be holding a two month consultation, starting on Wednesday 3 August and running until Friday 30 September.

The Council is proposing to replace the existing narrow, substandard single carriageway in the Monkton area with around 8km (5 miles) of new road between the Honiton Bypass and Devonshire Inn (the junction of the A30 with the A303).

The Met Office should be forecasting for sunny times ahead as Turtle Bay Caribbean restaurant and bar prepares to roll into its first city in Devon! It’s all about rum, reggae and jerk this summer!

Turtle Bay is set to open its doors to Exeter on the 23rd August, bringing a new, vibrant and delicious Caribbean dining and drinking experience to the city.
