Exeter-based law firm achieves record breaking results

Porter Dodson, the South West-based UK Top 200 law firm, has announced a record-breaking year of growth and achievement, increasing revenue to £20.2m, while retaining the highly prestigious Gold Investors In People accreditation for the third successive time.

Across its Exeter, Sherborne, Poundbury, Bridport, Wellington, Taunton, and Yeovil offices, the firm has seen year-on-year growth of 15.5%, leading to a 25.4% leap in net profit.

Roman coin hoard to stay in Devon

The Seaton Down Roman coin hoard will stay in Devon thanks to a number of donations and grants.

The hoard has been purchased by Exeter’s RAM Museum for £50,000, allowing it to be kept together and displayed for the benefit of the people of Devon and Exeter and for Hoardfuture generations.

The purchase and conservation of the hoard of coins was made possible by contributions from Devon County Council, the Heritage Lottery Fund, Clinton Devon Estates, a private donation by Patrick Long, and members of the public.

£120k secured for new multi-wheeled sports facility

Young people in Teignbridge are being encouraged to submit designs for a new multi-purpose outdoor sports facility worth more than £120,000.

Teignbridge District Council and Newton Abbot Town Council have teamed up with local organisations to replace the existing Buckland Skatepark with the new facility.

The announcement has been welcomed by the community of Buckland and Milber as well as its surrounding areas.

Flexible working can provide an antidote to the health risks associated with sedentary office jobs in Exeter according to a new survey from Regus. Medical journal The Lancet recently published a paper outlining the risks to health of sitting at the desk all day.

Two year old Exeter girl beats eye cancer

At just six months old, Rose Elhiti was diagnosed with a rare form of eye cancer after her parents spotted a white glow in her eye and took her to a GP.

The two-year-old, from Exeter, eventually underwent chemotherapy treatment and still has regular hospital check-ups but is in remission.

And now she has become something of a celebrity, after helping to relaunch the Vision Express store in Sidmouth after an extensive renovation, on Tuesday 9 August 2016.

A team of search officers are continuing their efforts to trace missing woman Gergana Prodanova.

Following her disappearance and the subsequent launch of a murder investigation an extensive operation utilising specialist police teams has been carried out in Exeter.

Around 30 officers are currently conducting house-to-house enquiries and police are particularly keen for landlords and tenants in the Mount Pleasant area of the city to search their gardens, outbuildings and allotments as the hunt for Gergana intensifies.

Summer drink and drug driving campaign results suggest that if you offend in Devon and Cornwall you’re twice as likely to get caught compared to the national average.

Figures from the recent summer drink and drug driving campaign show that in Devon and Cornwall the percentage of drivers tested that were positive, failed or refused a reading is just over twice the national average in almost all measures, with an average of around 21% compared to 10% nationally.

East Devon District Council has reported that all of its 237 beach huts, 20 beach chalets and 241 beach hut sites at Beer, Seaton West, Seaton East, Budleigh Salterton, Exmouth and are now fully let for the 2016/2017 season.
