From 17 September, visitors to Exeter’s Royal Albert Memorial Museum (RAMM) will find some surprising and innovative sculptures. Centre-stage will be a single, massive, pulsating, inflatable sculpture inhabiting most of the gallery.

Artist Michael Shaw’s sculpture is original, dynamic and fun. In this exhibition, Michael Shaw: Sculpting the Museum, he responds to artefacts from RAMM’s collections using metals, plastics and natural materials, using laser cutting and rapid prototyping. His sculptures are displayed alongside the original artefacts as a 21st-century Cabinet of...

With the summer holidays over and children heading back to school this week, many parents may feel a sense of relief as their daily order returns. However, research from motor experts Confused.com also reveals that the new school term signals the end of quiet roads and the start of longer commutes. The average Brit will see 40 minutes per week added to their daily drive to work.

The average daily commute will increase from a swift 22 minutes per day during the school holidays, to half an hour during term time. It comes as no surprise that when children are back in school, over a...

Supermarket Morrisons is to cut prices on meat, veg and fruit this week.

A spokesman said it would be reducing prices on nearly 160 products by an average 12 per cent on the items, in the latest round of its Price Crunch campaign. The latest move comes just a month after Morrisons trimmed the price of more than 1,000 products, including toiletries and seasonal fruit and vegetables, by an average of 18%.

Retailers believe that food price inflation is unlikely to arrive until the autumn when the supply of UK-grown fresh produce reduces and they are forced to buy more food...

Plymouth Science Park’s landmark £7million building already has two top London-based firms wanting to move in.

Both are relocating their R&D hubs to Plymouth Science Park, drawn by its innovation, support for businesses, technological advancement and partnership working with the South West Local Enterprise Partnership, Plymouth University and Plymouth City Council.

The South West’s enviable lifestyle, more affordable rents and salaries, freedom from dreary commutes, less staff poaching, and an enhanced quality of life give businesses relocating here an advantage over...

Wasps 25 Chiefs 20

In what is the first meeting between these two Premiership prize-fighters, it was Wasps who delivered the first telling blow of the new season against the Exeter Chiefs.

Undone in all three top flights meetings by the Chiefs last season, Dai Young’s side enacted a spot of revenge in this seasonal opener as a late flurry of points drove them down victory lane.

Jimmy Gopperth – the hero in last season’s European Champions Cup quarter-final between the two clubs – again proved the match winner, converting Tommy Taylor’s late try, as well as a penalty to finish with a personal...

Chiefs side to face Wasps

Rob Baxter insists his Exeter Chiefs side are in “good nick” ahead of their seasonal opener against Wasps in the Aviva Premiership on Sunday (3pm).

Runners-up last season, the Chiefs head for a testing away-day at the Ricoh Arena looking to lay down a solid foundation from which to attack the 2016/17 season.

An unbeaten pre-season programme – which saw the Devon club record victories over Guinness Pro12 sides Scarlets, Ulster and Newport-Gwent Dragons – have given a solid enough base from which to build, but Baxter knows the hard work starts this weekend, up against a...

New service to help East Devon residents recycle more to be phased in

A trailblazing new service to help East Devon residents recycle more of their waste than ever before will be phased in across the district from February next year.

For the first time, the district’s 68,000 households will be able to recycle cardboard, mixed plastics and Tetra Paks which will be collected every week from the kerbside; alongside the extensive list of items residents can already recycle. The new additions mean householders are able to recycle more, throw away less rubbish and put East Devon at the very forefront of environmental sustainability.

Examples of new...
