Exeter announces its bid to become the UK’s City of Culture in 2029 

Exeter City Council has today announced it will be submitting an expression of interest (EOI) for the prestigious UK City of Culture title. 

The City of Culture bid follows the culmination of five months extensive engagement and consultation with artists, creatives, cultural organisations and residents to shape the council’s commissioned new five-year Cultural Strategy for Exeter.

Exeter City moved into the play-off places for the first time this season as David Wheeler scored the only goal in a 1-0 away win at Portsmouth.

Exeter Chiefs moved to the top of Pool 2 in this season’s Anglo-Welsh Cup with a ruthless display of finishing against Wasps at Sandy Park.

Ricky Pellow’s side ran in eight tries on the day, five of which came in the first period through Michele Campagnaro (2), Mitch Lees, Sam Simmonds and Stu Townsend, before Shaun Malton, Campagnaro again, and Lachie Turner followed suit in the second half.

A further 12 points from the boot of young fly-half Joe Simmonds completed the job for the Chiefs in front of nearly 10,500 fans.
