A Topsham-based designer of luxury kitchens and bathrooms has doubled the size of its premises and created two new jobs after securing a five-figure funding package from Lloyds Bank Commercial Banking. The funding has enabled Sapphire Spaces to acquire an additional unit adjacent to its current base at Dart Business Park. Devon introduces jobs freeze to cut costs

A jobs freeze is being introduced by Devon County Council to manage a projected budget overspend.

The latest estimates show the budget will overspend by £8.1 million by the end of the financial year unless firm action is taken.

The jobs freeze will not apply to posts where the council would fail to meet its statutory responsibilities if it did not recruit a replacement worker.

In addition, no temporary or agency staff or consultants – apart from front-line social workers – will be taken on without the personal authorisation of chief executive, Phil Norrey.

Luke Cowan-Dickie hailed Exeter Chiefs’ fighting spirit after they emerged with a dramatic New Year’s Eve victory at Bath.

Young Farmers gain places on 2017 travel scholarships

The Devon Federation of Young Farmers Clubs recently held their travel interviews which saw over 40 members from across the county apply for the 2017 scholarships. The members completed application forms and attended interviews at the Devon Young Farmers centre in Exeter.

Extended thanks to the interviewers; Marion Cann, Neil Grills, Clare Edworthy, Chris Berry, Faye Heal and Mark Davis who have all previously been members of Devon YFC and travelled on the scholarship programme.
