Three Devon businesses emerged as award winners this week at the annual contest to find the best small businesses in the South West.

The FSB South West Small Business Awards final saw more Devon companies shortlisted for honours than any other region and at the Weston-super-Mare finals three of them - The Devon Seaweed Company of Newton Abbot, Okehampton Community Kitchen and Simon Hall Will Writing of Exeter returned home as regional winners. All three will now have a chance to go for national FSB titles at the UK final in Birmingham in May.

Artisan businesses ranging from jewellery makers to a carbon neutral carpenter are getting a showcase in Topsham at the end of March.

The first Love Topsham Artisan Business Fair takes place in Matthews Hall on March 26 - the first day of spring - from 10am until 3pm.

There will be well over 20 stalls, almost all showcasing businesses based in and around Topsham but lacking their own permanent shop windows.

“We’ve got a host of entrepreneurs and creatives with extraordinary businesses, often working under the radar in offices, homes, lofts and old warehouses....

Final applications to Connecting Devon and Somerset’s successful Mobile Boost scheme should be submitted by tomorrow (Tuesday 28 February), ahead of the scheme drawing to a close at the end of March.

The initiative has so far invested more than £1,031,000 to help those in the region who cannot receive an adequate indoor 4G mobile signal.

To date, more than 1,490 homes and businesses across Devon, Somerset, Torbay and Plymouth have benefited from the scheme which provides vouchers worth up to £1,200 to support applicants with the cost of installing a mobile signal booster...

The £4.5m road enhancement scheme has been under construction for the past two years and was completed on 23rd February 2023.

The new access will help to boost East Devon’s economy, through provision of new jobs and opportunities for clean and inclusive growth. The enhancements to Long Lane unlock development of the new 19 acre Power Park site part of the Exeter and East Devon Enterprise Zone and is expected to create around 1,000 jobs.
