Stagecoach announces changes to Torbay bus network

Stagecoach South West has announced that, from 29 October 2017, it will be making a number of changes to its Torbay bus services, improving reliability and connectivity over a core part of its network.

The Hop12 timetable will remain largely unchanged, with some alterations to early morning journeys in order to improve reliability.

EXETER Pride committee, the group which organises the biggest annual celebration of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT+) communities in the county of Devon, is one of four Pride organisations who hope to stage UK Pride 2018.

The first UK Pride took place at Pride in Hull in July 2017, attracting visitors to the city from across the UK.

Licensed by the UK Pride Organisers Network (UKPON), UK Pride is the national equivalent of EuroPride and WorldPride.

Quality inspectors rate Devon care homes and GP practices higher than the national average

Nearly a quarter of Devon GP practices are outstanding according to quality inspectors, compared to just 4 percent of practices in England. And the percentage of Devon’s care homes rated outstanding is twice the national average.

The data, published by the health and care watchdog, the Care Quality Commission (CQC), is being loudly applauded by Devon County Council and NEW Devon CCG.

19 of 435 care homes in Devon (4 percent), inspected by the CQC, are considered ‘outstanding’ homes, compared to just 2 percent of care homes in England overall.

NEW resources to inspire children and young people to #CallTimeOut on Hate Crime were unveiled at a reception held at Portcullis House, The House of Commons, Westminster in London, ahead of Hate Crime Awareness Week (October 14 to 21).

Gregory looking for old photographs for heritage museum

Devon schools celebrate the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award at St James’s Palace

On Thursday 12th October, representatives from five schools in Devon received a Duke of Edinburgh’s Award (DofE) Licensed Organisation certificate from celebrity presenter, Philip Schofield at St James’s Palace in London.

The five schools, Exeter College, Teign School, Honiton College, Uffculme School and The King’s School received their licence to deliver The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award alongside 100 young people from the South West who were receiving their Gold Award at a Gold Award Presentation.

Brother Keith Meager with his wife Helen hosted an event to present cheques to Cancer Lifeline South West his chosen charity for 2016/17 and also the Masonic Teddies for Loving Care, who have given over 40,000 teddies to children who become stressed during visits to the emergency departments of hospitals including Torbay, RDNE Exeter, North Devon and Derriford Plymouth.

Fireworks, food and dancing to mark Diwali in Exeter

Spectacular fireworks, Indian food and dancing and the chance to dress up like a Bollywood star will be the highlights of the University of Exeter’s Diwali celebrations.

Henna painting, dance workshops, market stalls and performances will be on offer at the event, which is run by student volunteers and is open to all visitors.
